Players are dealt a set number of cards at the start of a game of rummy, usually seven or ten, depending on the variation. The top card is done 21 slotsealt face-up to begin the discard pile, and the remaining cards form a draw pile. Prior to discarding one card, each player draws from the draw pile or the discard pile.
