Holding onto valuable cards until they can be put to good use is another successful melding tactic. It might make sense to hold onto face cards until they can be combined with other cards in the hand or drawn from the deck, for instance, if a player has several face cards but lacks the sets or sequences needed to meld them. If an opponent goes out before they can meld, this strategy reduces the number of points that could be lost.
