While a sequence is made up of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit, a set is made up of three or four cards of the same rank but different suits. In most variations of Rummy Joy, playeraja satta numberrs are dealt a set number of cards when they enter the game room, usually 13. One face-up card initiates the discard pile, while the remaining cards form a draw pile. After drawing a card from the draw or discard pile, each player discards one card from their hand. The game goes on until one player declares "Rummy" after successfully creating sets and sequences with every card in their deck.
