Share on Twitter Share on Facebook 4 min readThe third leg of the 2025 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) takes place at the Grosvenor G Casino on Park Street West in the poker hotbed that is Luton between April 23 and May 6. Among the bustling 2025 GUKPT Luton schedule is a £1,250 buy-in Main Event that carries an impressive £250,000 guarantee on its prize pool. If previous 2025 GUKPT Main Events have taught us anything, it is that this tournament will likely smash that guaranteed sum.
COVID-19-enforced postponements aside, Luton has been a staple on the GUKPT since the tour's debut season in 2007. Luton probably isn't the first British town you'd come up with during conversations about live poker, but Lutonians love playing cards, and GUKPT Luton stops are always well attended.
The 2025 GUKPT Luton festival bursts into action at 7:00 p.m. BST on April 23, with a £50 satellite awarding tickets to the £200 Opener and the £560 Midi Main Event. Both of those target tournaments shuffle up and deal on April 24, concluding on April 27. The Midi Main comes with a £100,000 guaranteed prize pool; the Opener guarantees £50,000 will be won.
Players heading to Luton can get their teeth into several side events, including the £250 Mini Main Event, £250 Pot Limit Omaha, £550 GUKPT Cup, £150 Seniors, and the £200 Closer.
The High Rollers among you should head to the Grosvenor G Casino on the afternoon of April 30. At 3:00 p.m. BST, the first day of the £1,650 buy-in, £100,000 guaranteed High Roller gets underway. Last year, an anonymous player came out on top of a 67-strong crowd and banked £31,840. When the GUKPT returned to Luton in September, the High Roller drew in 83 entrants.
Of course, it is the £1,250 GUKPT Luton Main Event that is the tournament everyone has their eye on, not least because Grosvenor Casinos has placed a £250,000 guarantee on its prize pool. Featuring a trio of starting flights from May 1, including a turbo-structured Day 1C on May 2, the Main Event needs 250 entrants to hit the guaranteed amount.
Andrew Hulme Wins the Massive 2025 Grosvenor UK Open for £219,720Read moreIn the equivalent tournament in 2024, Christopher Johnson emerged victorious, leaving 211 opponents in his wake. Johnson became a two-time GUKPT Main Event champion, having previously won in Leeds in 2022, and padded his bankroll with £48,570.
In the September 2024 edition of the GUKPT Luton Main Event, Seb Crane scooped the £66,000 top prize and denied Team Grosvenor's Katie Swift the chance to become the tour's first-ever female champion. A field of 284 players competed on that occasion.
The 2025 GUKPT Luton festival concludes on May 4, but then heads online to Grosvenor Poker for a £110 buy-in, £25,000 guaranteed Online Closer. This is a two-day tournament that wraps up on May 6.

The GUKPT Luton Main Event has historically produced some stellar champions. Dave Clark won the inaugural event in 2007 and walked away £107,300 richer. Twelve months later, a then relatively unknown Sam Trickett emerged victoriously and padded his bankroll with £109,050. That score, coupled with $245,927 he won in Vegas six weeks previous, set Trickett on his way to superstardom.
Others who have been crowned GUKPT Luton champion over the years include Charles "Chaz" Chattha, Neil Channing, John Eames, David Docherty, Tom Hall, and Stuart Rutter. Will you be adding your name to that star-studded list this year?
