With the top card face up, the discard pile is started, & the remaining cards make up the draw pile. Each player takes a rummy rani apkturn drawing cards from either pile, then at the conclusion of their turn, they discard one card. When no more cards can be drawn and no player can move, or when a player forms sets and runs with all of their cards, the game is declared over.
