The card game rummy has its roots in the 19th century. Although some people think it originated from the Chinese card game Mahjong, Conquian, a Mexican card game playdragon vs tigered with a Spanish deck, is thought to be its direct ancestor. A crucial component of contemporary rummy, the idea of creating card combinations was first presented by Conquian. As rummy gained popularity throughout the world, it was modified in many ways, giving rise to different variations like Gin Rummy, Indian Rummy, & Kalooki.
