From their invention in the late 19th century, slot machines have a long and interesting history. First created in 1895, Charles Fey's Liberty Bell was the first rummy goidslot machine. Three rotating reels with five symbols—the Liberty Bell, horseshoes, diamonds, spades, and hearts—were featured on this early gadget. All throughout America's saloons and bars, the Liberty Bell slot machine quickly became a favorite. Early in the 20th century, slot machines were outlawed in numerous states.
