It's possible to learn about an opponent's card collection & possible sets and runs by looking at their disrumny arescards. Keeping track of one's own discards makes it easier to prevent opponents from getting necessary cards. When unable to form sets & runs, it's critical to know when to give up in order to minimize point loss.
